Walgreen's LOVES Patti's Cookies---

Patti Johnson's "Heaven Sent Gourmet Cookies, Inc.: have been located in Gary, Indiana for many years. Someone from Walgreens Drug stores tried them and wanted to sell them in their stores. We know how delicious they are and soon that will be known everywhere. Congratulations Patti!

Wally's Been Really Ill!---

For all of you that may not know, Wally has been hospitalized TWICE within the last 30 days and had surgerical and test proceedings during both stays. Kathleen, has been beside herself with concern for both Wally AND the 4 grandsons she and Wally babysit everyday. God knows where they get the energy to do THAT, but Wally is always checking up and going out of his way to help others, either in the alumni association or through his volunteer work at the hospital or at his church. If you have not already done so, or even if you have, PLEASE give him a call or drop him a line to let him know we appreciate him.

Alumni Gives Scholarships---

At the recent showcase dinner held at the Washburne Culinary Institute, five $500.00 and one $1,000.00 scholarships were awarded. Even though we had very few donations from alumni members, the Buedel family generously gave $1,000.00 in Fred's honor. Hall's Rental $75.00 for the Bridget Gallery and Dominick Vinelli $50.00 towards the Joel Jacob's Scholarship.

There were a few other donations, but, unfortunately, the majority of the funds were supplied from our depleting Treasury. If I forgot any alumni who donated more than $25.00, please call Wally at 847-882-4573 and feel free to yell and bawl him out!

As usual, we owe a great debt of gratitude to Kristyn Benson who conducted interviews, screened the applicants, and selected the winners of these awards. She has been volunteering to do this for many years and had help from President Julie Zaremba. Thank you ladies, and may God Bless You!

Marc and His New Career---
Dear Washburne Alumni, as you may remember I got married a little over a year ago and am living in Montana. My wife and I run her family Cattle Ranch. We just started calving last week so we are busy 24-7 checking cows. We have about 100 head (hopefully soon to be 200 after calving) as well as a few sheep, pea fowl and a lama too. It has been a great new life style for me!! Instead of preparing and serving the beef we raise it. Talk about the opposite end of the food chain ;-). I LOVE IT!!! Can you tell?

Marc...

"DUCE" FOLLOWS DAD

Alumnus Larry Raymond invented "Sweet Bay Rays' Bar"B"Que sauce. It became and still is one of the most loved sauces in the country. Then Larry let his brother run the business and moved to Wisconsin where he became know as one of the best chefs in the state. This was not enough. He bought a restaurant and soon was voted "Outstanding Food Service Manager'. Now retired he is able to watch his children bring him the happiness he deserves from a life of hard work. An example is his son "Duce" who is following in his footsteps. Attached is an article about his latest accomplishments.

DAVID OPENS NEW BISTRO

After many years, of success at his top line restaurant in Des Plaines, Alumnus David Maish decided the over head was too high for what he was getting. He moved to Antioch. He was able to keep the same high class menu at a lower price. This as paid off. People love his food. His business is great. He is open for lunch and dinner. Stop in and say "Hello!". Tell him you are an alumnus. He is at 883 Main Street in Antioch.

He will be glad to see you.
